Woke Up And Seen The Sun Sky High

So I've been wanting to make this mix for a long time and finally got it together. The Mizell Brothers were responsible for my love of jazz even though I didn't know it. Funky, soulful, complex music in the 70's that I never get tired of listening to. Most folks are familiar with the Mizell's sound by virtue of the heavy sampling that's been done from their catalogue, but I really feel that you can't go wrong listening to the original jams. The mix (I believe) has something from every artist that they worked with, and hopefully will open folks up to something new.

House Music Mix

Now I know that a lot of folks have certain preconceptions about house music, the people who listen to it, etc. Trust me, this is a gem of a mix. I can't take credit for it - it was a promotional CD that I got back in 2000 but I still rock it to this day. It's a compilation of Guidance records recordings - a soulful house label out of Chicago - mixed by this dude A:xis. Just give it a listen - it'll fit on a CD if you want to burn it. Like I said, trust me, you'll enjoy it.
Not going to bother with the tracklist unless requested via the comments, it probably won't mean much to anyone until they've heard it anyway.

A Fresh Of Breath Air

Air: One of my favorite bands of the past decade - they can do no wrong in my mind. This is a mix I made back in '02 when they were 4 albums deep - they've released a couple more gems since then.
Hopefully you can catch the mood and roll with it - it's edited to fit onto a CD if you want to burn it and pop it in the ride.
Enjoy.

TVOTR - Celebrate Brooklyn!

TV On The Radio played a nice benefit show on August 11 at the Prospect Park Band Shell in Brooklyn. Great turnout, the band was on fire, local musicians represented including El-P and the Antibalas horns section. Only complaint is that it could've been a little louder, but that's what happens with an outdoor show in a residential area.
I took notes on their set list and pulled all the studio versions together and threw 'em into a compilation. They hit the new album pretty heavily, but also rewarded their old school fans with stuff from the Young Liars EP and New Health Rock EPs. Check it out.

Tracklist:
  1. Shout Me Out
  2. The Wrong Way
  3. Halfway Home
  4. Golden Age
  5. Crying
  6. Wolf Like Me
  7. Red Dress
  8. Young Liars
  9. Blues From Down Here
  10. Staring At The Sun
  11. Dancing Choose

Fo Stalley Mix 2

My man Stalley is a rapper dude that works up at Alife. He's from the midwest (OHIO!) so we connected on that level, plus the mad love of music. He was telling me about how he was going to drop a mix tape and wanted some jazzy samples so I hipped him to a host of funky artists for him to research, plus made him a mix.
Check him at http://www.myspace.com/madstalley - he dropped a mixtape and the last cut (Spice Island) was a beat directly from our conversations.
Anyway, I was so happy to see him jump on some stuff that I decided to make another mix of sample friendly beats. Hopefully he'll do something with these too. I'll be like creative consultant or something...
Anyway...enjoy!
